Can You Revise Breast Implant Surgery?
Some patients end up unsatisfied with the results of another surgeon's breast implant surgery. Maybe your breast implants are not as big as you wanted; or perhaps they are too large and disproportionate to the rest of your body.
If this is the case, you can undergo breast implant revision surgery to change the size of your implants. While this surgery is possible, and is commonly performed, keep in mind that corrective breast surgery is much more technically challenging and time consuming than the original surgery.
One reason is that there are typically issues with skin that has thinned or stretched out since the original surgery. Another challenge is that there is often both internal and external scar tissue that can make a breast implant revision more complex. Finally, the anatomy of your breasts and chest wall has changed since your original surgery. This means that surgical landmarks have become distorted and new obstacles have been created that Virginia cosmetic surgeon Dr. Eric Desman must fix in order to restore a natural appearance that is aesthetically pleasing.
The bottom line is that you can increase or decrease the size of your implant. Keep in mind that if you decide to downsize your breast implant, this may create skin laxity and require a breast lift procedure in addition to the revision surgery.
